About the Book

In January 2005 I attended an event that was also attended by several people who had won awards and been recognized for their entrepreneurial spirit. As I looked around the room I remembered them telling their stories of hard work and determination and I was inspired again!
 
As I left the event that morning I mentioned to Shirley Schmitz, a true entrepreneur herself and a leader in the field, that someone should write a book so that the inspirational stories of the entrepreneurs in that room would not be lost but shared with young people and others wanting to start a business of their own.
 
Shirley spent the next two and a half years writing this book. It reflects not only the entrepreneurs that she interviewed and wrote about but also her unique and compelling spirit. The stories are informal, told in their own style, so that the reader has a sense of sitting with them and “hearing” them share their feelings, philosophy, fears, failures and accomplishments. I’m enriched by their candor and know you will be as well. I’m also extremely grateful to Shirley for giving us this book.
